We do not simply react to life—we react to the stories we tell ourselves about life. In this interactive session, Tom Busch will help participants explore how quickly we can move from something we hear or see, to the meaning we assign it, to the feelings and reactions that follow.
Using The Narrative Model, Tom will unpack how these internal narratives can quietly fuel shame, fear, conflict, disconnection, and unhealthy coping. He will help participants recognize when they are becoming driven more by the story in their mind than by what is actually true. From there, he will guide them in bringing those narratives into the light so they can be examined with greater honesty, clarity, and compassion.
But awareness is only part of the work. This session will also explore how narrative can become a doorway into healthier dialogue. Tom will offer practical ways to name what is happening internally and invite honest, trust-building conversation—whether we are the one creating the story or the one trying to understand someone else’s.
Designed for residents, alumni, and loved ones alike, this workshop creates space for reflection, discussion, and shared processing. The hope is simple: that people leave with greater awareness, deeper compassion, and a more empowered way to respond to themselves and others. If we do not learn to control our narratives, our narratives will control us—but when we bring them into the light, we can begin to rewrite the story.
